Alrighty. I just had my first ever session as a DM. And, being honest, it was incredibly on-the-fly as it was only arranged last night and I had roughly 3 hours this morning to prep.
However!
It seemed to go really well.
The party enjoyed it.
I nearly killed three of them.
Everyone survived!!

The setting itself is my own homebrew setting and the region I had the party start within is populated primarily by a goblinoid 'civilization' that put tribal warring aside (because I like goblinoids and wanted to give them their own nation, basically).

The story was that the party had been hired as guards for a caravan belonging to a religious order that was traveling from the region's capital city to the only real port town in the country. The journey was to take a week and they would be paid on arrival. The first 5 days went smoothly and on the 6th night (where the session starts because I just wanted to throw the players straight into a fight) the caravan was ambushed during the watch by what would have been considered to be bandits - 4 kobolds, 3 goblins and a worg.
The worg-mounted goblin boss and two kobolds approached from one side and the rest of the 'ambushers' approached from the other. As intended the worg and boss were good damage sponges and allowed the second group to join in mid-fight and get a good amount of confusion. While a lot of the fight was centered around killing the worg (I rolled for its health and nearly maxed it...) the second group of attackers managed to render one of the party's bards and one of the stronger fighters unconscious just as the worg almost murdered an NPC stand-in with a single attack.
Fortunately the party has 2 bards so the second one was able to keep the party standing (A nat20 on death save from the fighter helped, too).

Aside from the 4 times party members fell unconscious (the fighter dropped twice) the fight went pretty smoothly and the next day the party finished escorting the caravan and got paid, which they were happy about.

Now I have to actually plan for the next session which is going to be fun, I hope.(Spoilers: I'm introducing a beholder to the level 2 party of 6.)

And that's how the session went. I was happy with it, the players seemed happy with it and I'm genuinely looking forwards to the next one.

... Is lined with Pokestops... One would assume, at least.

Yes, Pokestops.

Three days ago I downloaded Pokemon Go again, of the first time since about 3 months after it was released. I am sincerely blaming my brother for this but at the same time, I'm not actually all that annoyed with myself about it. I'm hoping to use it as a motivator to get myself out of the house and walking beyond the to-the-corner-shop-and-back I have been doing near daily. So far it has worked. The day after I got it I walked for about 4 hours, the next day I walked for 2 (though that was maybe a little shorter than I had planned)... Today... I checked it as I woke up and basically got out of bed just to go catch a bloody Dratini that had turned up nearby. That was the start of a walk close to an hour long so I'm not complaining.
I'll probably do a bit more later once I've seen Cassini off to work. Just meander around the village again a couple more time until I either get to cold or run out of pokeballs (Home is within range of 2 pokestops so I lucked out there.)

Sorry this has been a little pointless and possibly boring, but I was also aware that I'd not said anything here for a few days and I'm trying to get into a habit of posting (and therefore reading) regularly. Anyway...

Hello again.

Following up from my D&D post I thought it might be fun to list some of the Tabletop Wargame stuff I have... Or, rather, as much as I can remember off the top off my head because... Well, why not.

First up, offerings from Games workshop:
1 large 40K Ork army (about 3k points and close to 200 models (I think...)
Might be starting a Craftworlds army soon, too.
Some Nightvault stuff (An old starter box and 2 or 3 additional 'squads'

Warmachine and Hordes - isn't likely to grow. This shit makes GW prices look reasonable.
A small Retribution of Scyrah army
Legion of Everblight starter box from a few years ago.

Star Wars: X-Wing - all of this is 1st edition. the upgrade to second will cost too much :(
1 metric shit ton of tie fighters and a few other assorted imperial ships (whoda thunk)
1 sizeable collection of Scum and Villainy ships.
Around 40 models between these two forces, I think.

2 1/2 Dystopian Wars fleets from before Weyland got hold of IP.
Covenant of Antactica
Italy (Don't remember the full name for the fleet)
Black Wolf Mercenaries
Easily 200+ models between all 3 fleets.

Star Trek Attack Wing - This is a lot like the X-wing game mentioned above but, obviously, Star Trek instead of Star wars. Also produced by WizKids not Fantasy Flight Games, though the FLight Path mechanic is licensed from FFG.
Here I have Romulans, Cardassians, Jem'Hadar and some independent faction ships. Around 30 ships, though some were rare and hard to get hold of.

A Firestorm Armada starter set. Never got to play this, unfortunately and probably never will now. I don't know if anyone picked up the property after Spartan Games went under.

Flames of War. I got the 2 player starter set for this at the start of November, just as the UK went back into lockdown and I haven't had chance to actually play it again yet. Another game that is expensive to expand, but a lot of fun and I hope to expand both armies that I have.

Off the top of my head, that's currently everything. If I have forgotten anything then it's probably been 5 or more years since I played it.

(Rich text still not working, wtf.)

So, today has been all over the place ut it has been made a lot better by the finding and installing of our old Xbox 360. It's been... Literally years since I last played it and after a few nostalgia-driven conversations with Cassini over the last few days they fely driven to dig it out and set it up.
And I'm glad it has been!
Scrolling through the installed games on there I found a few that I can't wait to play again (Keflings, Woo!!) and even Halo: Reach was in the drawer still so that is begging to be played (once we have sorted through our controllers and found a second one that works.)

In other console news, last night I found out about Sony's Play at Home offers and downloaded Ratchet and Clank for free. A game series which, incidentally, I have never played a single one of having previously been a Sega and Microsoft console owner. I'm also looking forwards to getting a few more free in a couple of days.

I have been thinking of either re-starting or even just finishing my play through of the Flashback re-release from a couple of years ago now that I have a better headset, though I'm not sure.

Otherwise this evening I'll probably be playing a little more Ratchet and Clank as well as pottering around the house. Might even find our copy of ODST, who knows.

I want to start by saying 'sorry' for the lack of formatting in this post but for some reason the Rich Text input option isn't working for me.

Second, as I was typing this, I found out that my D&D session for tonight has been cancelled (less than an hour before we were due to start. Boo.) so I've been told to say that it's down to the people on Dreamwidth to entertain me (Guess who said that.)

So. Now that I've mentioned something about my evening (And as something as an introduction to me,i guess), I'm going to talk a little more about my D&D stuff (Basically just listing stuff)

Gonna start with a list of my D&D characters ('cause why not).
Smudge the Kobold Cleric, Forge domain - Died at level 3 from back to back nat 1s
Smoke the black-scaled Dragonborn Rogue, Assassin archetype - Level 3, written out of a campaign because the party kept bitching that the cleric died.
Fae the High Elf Cleric, Life domain - Level 5. The successor to Smudge and Smoke, currently on hold and waiting for one-shots
Eryn the 'Elf' Warlock, Undying patron - Level 13. Secretly a changeling on the path to lichdom, she is part of a homebrew campaign and a lot of fun. Only the myself and the DM know she's a changeling and her motivations.
Tisiphone the Tiefling Sorcerer, Wild origin - Level 3. I used the variant appearance options when making her to make her look as demon/succubus-like as possible. She likes control effects (charm/fear) and is currently at 1hp and about to enter a boss fight.
Itoxea the Satyr Bard, School of Whispers - Level 2. Creepy girl. Plays Cradle of Filth on the pan flute and favours spells that deal psychic damage. Apparently likes trout sandwiches.

Aside from those characters I am hoping to start DMing a sandbox campaign in a homebrewed setting. I'm nervous about it, to be honest. It'll be my first time DMing and I have no idea how I'm gonna do. The players have chosen a diverse selection of characters but no damned healers (so I'm breaking out the Sidekick rules from Tasha's). They've also been a pain in my arse already by not choosing backgrounds that can be linked together very easily which was the one thing I asked them to do. Like herding cats, I swear...

That's all I really have to say right now, even though I do love talking about my characters xD. I'm gonna go put my hunter's chicken in the oven and maybe play some more Phantom Pain.

Thanks for reading!!

P.S. Thanks to Cassini for embarrassing me and announcing my presence. I appreciate it!

Sleepy thoughts whilst listening to Harry Potter: What good does snapping a witch or wizard’s wand serve when they are expelled? In book 7 it says that attendance at Hogwarts was not compulsory and that children could be home schooled if their parents wished. Witches and wizards are also not inextricably linked to a single wand although there is a distinct personal attachment that may form between the wand and its owner. All through the series we see different wands going between different people. Ron has his older brother’s want from the start, in book 5 the imposter uses Harry’s wand in the woods at the world cup and presumably uses Moody’s wand for nearly a year, in book 3 Sirius uses Snape’s wand etc. It could represent a symbolic gesture but, again, what purpose does it serve? Yes the wizarding community seems to be pretty tightly-knit and news and gossip spreads rapidly so, although there may be some shame in having to buy a new wand, unless there is some law preventing the witch/wizard from buying another wand then what good does the snapping do that a fine wouldn’t accomplish? A law preventing the acquiring of a replacement wand would also prevent the witch/wizard in question from completing their education, although expulsion and wand destruction are handled by two different authorities. In book 5 Dumbledore says that the ministry has no power to expel a student of Hogwarts and we are also informed in the same book, at roughly the same time, that the ministry could have only seized and destroyed Harry’s wand if he had been found guilty of using magic underage and whilst in the presence of a muggle without good reason which may then have lead to the situation of Harry not being expelled but having had his wand destroyed anyway. He would be a student of Hogwarts still but unable to participate in practical applications unless he was able to acquire a new wand anyway. As for Hagrid being ‘not meant’ to use magic, I think that’s more in reference to him not being supposed to use the fragments of his old wand. Ollivander asks whether or not Hagrid uses the fragments of his old wand which, to me, sounds like he was aware that Hagrid never got a replacement wand but as he doesn’t ask whether or not Hagrid uses magic says to me that, had Hagrid acquired another wand, it wouldn’t be a problem for him to use magic.

Phew. Now that’s out of my head, time to sleep at last.

-Yet another ‘too broad’ question, in my humble opinion, but I’m going to choose one this time and here goes...|”|

-Sorry I've missed a couple of days this week. Work has been awful and I swear that it has been trying to kill me./"/

-Anyway, on to the prompt which I've not actually put much thought into./"/

-SO, which character do I think I am most like? I have no idea. There may be quite a few that I have similarities with, but there aren't really any that I could say I'm most like./"/

-As for characters I wish I were like... Again the list is huge but far more easily narrowed down... Once I get my brain to think straight and sensibly, that is./"/

|"|Time Passes|"|

-Ugh. Sometimes I hate having a vast quantity of games in my past because that immense soup of content is making things difficult to pick any one character, or even a small number of characters. But! I think I'd most like to be... UGH! Whiy is this one so hard? I know these prompts are meant to be light hearted but I'm maybe overthinking this waaaay too much./"/

-Fuck it. I'm going to say I'm like *dithers once again* I have no idea. I'm trying to force this but it just ain't happening. I would quite like to be like someone like Arthur Morgan from RDR2. Someone with good survival skills and a fair amount of self confidence and conviction in my own actions./"/

-This one is pretty easy. I still love playing Pokémon. I know a lot of people do and I am aware it is still primarily a franchise aimed roughly towards children but, like a lot of people, I grew up with it and there is a very comforting nostalgia that comes from playing it/“/

-At first I thought this was going to be a difficult one to answer as I don’t really have much to do with gamers-at-large and wht games are trending and popular but then, as I was getting ready for work, I had a bit of a brainwave which provided me with my answer for today./“/

-A game that I believe is underrated is... *drumroll* Chromehounds!/“/

-Now. I took a bit of a liberty in choosing Chromehounds because it isn’t actually a current game. In fact, it was a pretty early game for the xbox360 that I discovered pretty late into the game’s life. However, I do believe that even when it was current it was a very underrated game./“/

-Chromehounds seemed to have taken influences from games like Armored Core and paired it with squad based capture the flag mechanics to create something rather unique./“/

-The players controlled modular megatanks, called ‘hounds’ and, in teams of up to 8 (i think) fought against each other with a ‘You Die, Your Dead’ mechanic. The entire battlefield was cloaked in a fog of war whicch blocked intra-squad communications which could only be lifted by capturing strategic locations known as COMBAS Towers and the access to communications only lasted as long as your team held the tower, meaning it would be entirely possible to cut off the communication of the other team by cutting the line of towers back to the opponent’s main base./“/

-The Hounds themselves were pretty nuanced and complex. Unlike Armored Core games in which the mechas had arms-legs-body-head-weapons setups, and the orientation and positioning are very strict, in Chromehounds each hound required a method of propulsion, a cockpit and a generator and they could be attached however the hard points would allow. The size and number of weapons that any hound could equip was only limited by the weight limit of the locomotion part and the power output of the generator. I regularly saw Hounds with 6 rocket pods, 4 machine guns and a sniper canon or two, all on the same vehicle. My personal preference was reverse jointed legs and two stacks of two of the most powerful sniper canons in the game, with which I got to be very adept - even managing to hit enemies beyond the typical reach of the weapon by mastering the bullet drop and flight times./“/

-I played Chromehounds a lot but, sadly, the servers were closed down after only a couple of years which speaks to how underrated it was. The mechanics and graphics were solid, and so was the gameplay even if the offline mode was only considered to be the tutorial for the online gameplay. I made a few friends playing that game and it will remain in my top games for a long time/“/

-This is actually deceptively difficult. There have been a lot of characters that have made a lasting impression on me in the last 25 years so this has taken a lot of thought. Do I choose a character from Dynasty Warriors that I've loved or something more linear? A custom or set character from an RPG? I could choose characters from any, and all, of these categories but I'm going to force myself to just choose one./"/

-Nope, can't do it. Can't just choose one. So, I chose two or three from different genres./"/

-Gonna start with shooters and for that I'd have to say it's Sgt. Johnson from Halo. I know he's pretty stereotypical but I can't help but love the little additional scene he gets in the ending cutscene to the legendary run in Halo 1/"/

-When it comes to custom characters from RPGs I have to say that my character Baratyr, a dark elf master of conjuration, is my favourite there. I've done writing for him outside of the game and he holds a special place in my heart/"/

-And from platforming/puzzle games I have to say that I can't help but love GLaDOS. The psychopathic, science loving, supercomputer from Portal./"/

-So the basis of this list comes from Xenoplush here./"/

\"\I say 30-ish because I might group a couple of shorter days together and/or add my own extra questions but I will aim to hit 30 days over all.-

-So. Day 1: Very first video game/"/

\"\This one is very easy for me, as is probably meant to be the intention for Day 1.-
-The very first video game I played was on December 25th 1993. Sonic the Hedgehog. My parents had gotten me a Sega Megadrive for Christmas and it included three games; Sonic the Hedgehog, Flashback and I always struggle to remember what the third was, perhaps Revenge of Shinobi but I can't be certain of that-

-Incidentally I recall hearing an anecdote from my dad a couple of years later that before they gave me the console they had set up the console one night to 'test' it and my mum got playing Sonic and she would lean with the controller while she was playing as though it would make her go faster or otherwise help her play./"/

So, just got my new tattoo today, been wanting this for a while, and a coue of comments that people have made got me thinking about a lot of things in the elderscrolls world. I am a player of TES iii-v, not eso and not arena or daggerfall so my understandings and a lot of my knowledge of the lore comes from those sources.
I want this post to be a collection of thoughts and discussions, with anyone who wants to join in, on the Elder Scrolls universe.

WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT AND IN COMMENTS

The first thought for this ‘collection’ is that Skyrim doesn’t really have a recognisable guild system as the previous instalments do. Part of this could be explained away by the ‘passage of time’ between Oblivion and Skyrim, or even it may be that they exist but are outside the interests of the player character. Whatever the reasoning for the absence I think that the Companions and the College of Winterhold are pretty poor excuses as replacements. The CoW, for example, allows a player to progress from ‘student’ to headmaster/mistress of the college with the only demonstrable magical requirement being the limited “Do task X” which doubles as the entrance exam. An exam that can be bypassed if the player has progressed along the storyline a bit and gets the chance to proclaim “lol i’m the dragon born” on arrival. The tasks within the college amount to little less than a standard Mercenary’s fare of busywork and tasks of dubious difficulty, none of which *require* any demonstration, or even use, of magic. The CoW has guild-like aspects, but at the same time doesn’t commit to them in any real magnitude. It’s like a bunch of kids “Uh. You just completed a lot of tasks and helped us, you can be the leader now.
The companions have a somewhat different governing method but it still boils down to tasks=promotion. In operation they work like little more than a band of mercenaries rather than a coherent, far-reaching organisation with both the knowledge and workforce to be useful across many fields.

Just for fun, this is somewhere to post daft crew reports for Kerbals that I, or anyone else who reads this, thinks up and would like to share.

From the launchpad: “Control, we have a problem; there are only raspberry Swiss rolls on board.”

From the waters of Kerbin: All of this saltwater is ruining the sandwich you grilled on re-entry
