Alrighty. I just had my first ever session as a DM. And, being honest, it was incredibly on-the-fly as it was only arranged last night and I had roughly 3 hours this morning to prep.
However!
It seemed to go really well.
The party enjoyed it.
I nearly killed three of them.
Everyone survived!!

The setting itself is my own homebrew setting and the region I had the party start within is populated primarily by a goblinoid 'civilization' that put tribal warring aside (because I like goblinoids and wanted to give them their own nation, basically).

The story was that the party had been hired as guards for a caravan belonging to a religious order that was traveling from the region's capital city to the only real port town in the country. The journey was to take a week and they would be paid on arrival. The first 5 days went smoothly and on the 6th night (where the session starts because I just wanted to throw the players straight into a fight) the caravan was ambushed during the watch by what would have been considered to be bandits - 4 kobolds, 3 goblins and a worg.
The worg-mounted goblin boss and two kobolds approached from one side and the rest of the 'ambushers' approached from the other. As intended the worg and boss were good damage sponges and allowed the second group to join in mid-fight and get a good amount of confusion. While a lot of the fight was centered around killing the worg (I rolled for its health and nearly maxed it...) the second group of attackers managed to render one of the party's bards and one of the stronger fighters unconscious just as the worg almost murdered an NPC stand-in with a single attack.
Fortunately the party has 2 bards so the second one was able to keep the party standing (A nat20 on death save from the fighter helped, too).

Aside from the 4 times party members fell unconscious (the fighter dropped twice) the fight went pretty smoothly and the next day the party finished escorting the caravan and got paid, which they were happy about.

Now I have to actually plan for the next session which is going to be fun, I hope.(Spoilers: I'm introducing a beholder to the level 2 party of 6.)

And that's how the session went. I was happy with it, the players seemed happy with it and I'm genuinely looking forwards to the next one.

Thanks for reading!!
